FORS Supporting Rodborough - ECO School
For more information follow this link
eco1
We have thought of a great way to support the school’s EcoSchool campaign and raise money for FORS and our school into the bargain! We can be paid for recycling certain waste items so please have a rummage for the following bits and pieces and bring them in for a recycling collection at school!
We have registered with three organisations who can turn our recycling into cash for us. Recycool is one of them and to find out more please click on the link. Recycool plant trees for every box of phones and printer cartridges received so there is an extra benefit to recycling!

Old Mobile Phones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)

phone1phone2

There are an estimated 80 million old mobile phones still waiting to be recycled in the UK. What happens to the Phones and PDAs when they are recycled? Wherever possible they are reused in third world countries such as Africa. If they can’t be repaired, they are broken down into bits. The plastic is used to make things like hubcaps for cars and the metal recycled and used to make all sorts of objects like metal cans for your baked beans! (There are some more facts below on why it’s good to recycle mobile phones).

For every phone that works we could raise between £1 and £20 for FORS and the school. So the newer the phone the more money we are likely to make.

To see a list of phones and pda’s that are accepted click this link.

Foreign Currency

notescoins

Did you realise over £100 million pounds of coins and notes are just lying around peoples homes in the UK? FORS will receive money for any coins or notes collected for any currency, it’s a really easy way to recycle unwanted items and raise much needed funds for FORS.

Aluminium

can 2
Recycling an aluminium can save up to 95% of the energy needed to produce a new can. Don’t forget all the aluminium foil that we all use as well. So things like milk bottle tops, seals for butter packs etc can all be recycled. But remember they must be clean or they won’t be accepted. Also, remember to check with a magnet to make sure its aluminium. So if the magnet doesn’t stick to the tin or foil its good to recycle.

Recycling cans and foil could make FORS up to £200 a tonne, that’s a lot of cans and foil but think of how the benefits to the environment and the simple and fun way everyone will learn to recycle.

We recycle our aluminium through a company called Avon Metals based in Gloucester who pay us for every car load of aluminium that we take to them.

Toner and Inkjet Cartridges

tonerprinter

Over 6 million toner and inkjet cartridges are used in the UK each year. Over half of these cartridges find their way into landfill sites.

Did you know that it takes 3.5 litres (a pint and a half in old money) to make a toner cartridge? On average a cartridge can be reused between 3 and 7 times before it can be broken down to be used for other plastic items such as garden furniture or the seat you sit on in school. (There are some more facts below on why it’s good to recycle cartridges)

For every useful cartridge we could raise at least 10p for FORS, perhaps even more.

To ensure you collect the right type of cartridge please look at the list available from this link.

Stamps & Postcards
stamp
Did you ever think of stamps and postcards as waste items, well they are! Millions of stamps are sent to landfill every year.
For every stamp collected whether British or foreign we could raise at least 40p for every 2Kgs of stamps collected. Please ensure that where possible you leave 1cm of paper around the stamp if it’s glued to a letter.
Postcards can be used or new. Anything goes!
