New cooker provided by the Co-Op!

The midcounties co-operative logo

The Mid-Counties Co-operative have granted FORS £500 which will be used to purchase an electric cooker for the new building’s kitchen. Many thanks to them for the generous donation. The children will be using the cooker in lessons at school and possibly at an after school cookery club.

Christmas Bazaar
Thank you to everyone who came to, donated for and helped at the Christmas Bazaar. We hope that you and your children had fun and found lots to do, look at, buy and consume! We made just over £800 which is a fantastic amount for a small school. All of it will be going into school funds for the children.
We hope that you all had a very happy Christmas and a good start to 2009.
Some news for the new year
Strictly Aerobics @ Rodborough!
Wednesday
6.45pm in the school hall
only £3
Aerobics on a Wednesday has a new “twist”! Our new aerobics teacher, Jacqui Bremner is introducing dancing to the session. NOT dance à la Fame or Flash Dance, but dance à la Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and John Sergeant??!! Come and strut your stuff and learn to jive, to quickstep and to Charleston and lots more while getting a workout at the same time as having so much fun. All ages and abilities can come along and join us – bring your 2 left feet – you won’t be the only one, and we can guarantee you will go home with a smile on your face!

Of course, Julie’s fitness class continues on a Tuesday for those who enjoy a more ‘circuit training’ type of aerobics class. Her classes are on Tuesdays at 7.45pm. Also £3 – a bargain!

Movie Night and Non Uniform Day for FORS and Children in Need

Friday 14th November 2008 will see Rodborough School participate in a ‘Do Something Different’ Non Uniform Day and later on a Movie Night. Funds from which will be split between our very own children in need (care of FORS) and BBC Children in Need.

Children are encouraged to come into school dressed in something “different” for the day instead of school uniform and make a donation in class. Then, later on at 5.30pm FORS will be screening 2 movies in 2 classrooms and selling refreshments too - plain popcorn, crisps, chocolate bars and still soft drinks. The children will be polled in school about which films they would like to see and the winning two will be screened simultaneously.

Admission for the movies will be free of charge but we are asking that each attendee buys a refreshment ticket for a £1 from the school office which will include a bag of popcorn or crisps and a drink. Additional refreshments will be available to buy at 50p each.

We will also be having donation buckets at the door for parents to donate to FORS and Children in Need.

Summer Ball 2008

A groovy time was had by all at the FORS Summer Ball held on Saturday July 12th 2008 :our best attended ever. Even the sun shone! As ever, it was wonderful to see so many colourful and glamorous frocks on the ladies present, and so many smartly dressed gentlemen, most of whom were still recognisable. Our band for the evening, Higher Ground (or was it Vertigo?) provided the kind of entertainment that will live long in the memories of those who witnessed it. Thanks go to them for playing free of charge. A big thank you to Elliott Bunker Ltd for sponsoring the event and enabling us to make a profit of around £800, the most we have ever made. Thanks also to all those who helped set up the event, and those who managed to get up with clear(ish) heads to tidy up on the morning after. Finally, a huge thank you to Mrs Halsey and Mr Lucas for giving up their Saturday night to run the bar.
